Maria Chao has been working in architecture
firms for the last 9 years - work experience
ranges from community planning, corporate
campuses, institutional buildings, to
residential work.

Previous work at William McDonough + Partners,
work renowned as leaders in the sustainability
movement, instilled an architectural design process
that integrates the building site within the local
environment (topography, vegetation, solar path,
view sheds, local culture, collective memory).

Currently working independently in Amherst, MA,
CHAO designs builds upon the modern necessity
and vision for "sustainable architecture". Outreach to
the local and regional communities continues in
parallel to the ongoing architectural work.
