Snell Street - Amherst
Situated on the south side of a
2-acre lot, this house is a study in
maximizing the natural properties
of the site. The simple mass of the
house and openness of the plan
allow for north-south cross ventilation
throughout the entire house, as
well as for light to penetrate deep into
every space.

The north prevailing winds cross over wetlands, providing cooling
natural ventilation into the house, while the operable windows at
the highest point on the south side draw hot air up and out of
the interior. Natural breezes, proper shading, light colored roof
material, and ceiling fans are the only cooling elements in the
design.
